Case Keenum - BCS Bowl NCAA Football Betting Odds: Southern Miss vs Houston

The No. 6 Houston Cougars can all but punch a ticket to a BCS bowl – probably the Sugar Bowl – with a win over Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon in the Conference USA Championship Game. Houston, which hosts this game, is a 13.5-point favorite on Bodog Sportsbook’s NCAA Football Betting Odds.

Houston (12-0) punched its ticket to this game with a 48-16 win over Tulsa last week to win the C-USA West. Record-setting QB Case Keenum threw for 457 yards and five touchdowns -- four of them to Patrick Edwards as part of his 181 receiving yards. Keenum, a Heisman candidate, already had set most NCAA career passing marks earlier this year and added another vs. Tulsa with his 37th career 300-yard game. Keenum needs 274 yards passing to become the first player in NCAA history with three 5,000-yard passing seasons in a career.

The Cougars, who lead the nation in points, passing yards per game and total offense, set a school record for wins in a season and matched records with a 12-game win streak set in 1990 and '91. The Cougars have scored 350 points the last six weeks along, which is more than 72 teams have had all season. Houston has never played in a BCS bowl and neither has a team from C-USA.

No. 24 Southern Miss (10-2) bounced back from a shocking loss to UAB with a 44-7 win over Memphis last Saturday to clinch the C-USA East Division. Austin Davis passed for 277 yards and two scores, and ran for another to give the Golden Eagles their first Conference USA Eastern Division title since 2006 and their first 10-win season since 1988.

Houston, which is 1-1 all-time in C-USA title games, has won three straight vs. Southern Miss at home. But the Golden Eagles won 59-41 last year in Hattiesburg. Keenum missed that game with an injury. USM’s Davis threw for four TDs and ran for two more. This season, USM is 4-1 ATS in past five road games. Houston is 7-0 ATS in its past seven conference games. The favorite has covered in the past five meetings in this series.
