Baseball Odds & Picks: Milwaukee Brewers vs San Francisco Giants

by Mike Stewart
Reigning National League MVP Ryan Braun hopes to be in the lineup Friday when the Milwaukee Brewers open a three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants.
Braun left Wednesday’s game against the San Diego Padres with an aching Achilles’ tendon and both he and the Brewers are hoping Thursday’s scheduled off day will prove to be enough time to recuperate.
San Francisco scored just five runs while being swept in three games by the Miami Marlins.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Zack Greinke (3-1, 3.94 ERA) vs. Giants RH Tim Lincecum (2-2, 5.74)
The Giants fell a game below .500 after Thursday’s loss and are 2-4 on a nine-game homestand that concludes Sunday. Third baseman Pablo Sandoval went on the disabled list with a hand injury and San Francisco is hoping to soon get veteran Aubrey Huff back from a DL stint tied to an anxiety disorder. Milwaukee has its own issues trying to score runs and is coming off back-to-back shutouts against the San Diego Padres. Braun leads the Brewers with seven homers and 17 RBIs and will be sorely needed with former Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum on the mound for San Francisco.
Greinke has allowed two or fewer runs in four of his five starts with his only poor outing – eight runs in 3 2/3 innings – coming against the Chicago Cubs on April 12. He beat St. Louis in his last start when he allowed one run in six innings. Greinke has never previously faced San Francisco.
Lincecum is coming off his top effort of the season after allowing three hits and one unearned run while beating the San Diego Padres. He has allowed just one earned run over his last two outings after being bombarded for 16 runs and 22 hits in 13 2/3 innings over his first three starts. Lincecum is 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA in eight career starts against Milwaukee.
1. Braun is batting .333 with two homers and seven RBIs in 21 career at-bats against Lincecum.
2. San Francisco outfielder Angel Pagan has a major-league best 17-game hitting streak.
3. Infielder Brooks Conrad will join the Brewers on Friday to replace first baseman Mat Gamel, who is likely done for the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee earlier this week.
