PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Kyle Drabek (2-2, 2.40 ERA) vs. Angels LH C.J. Wilson (3-2, 2.70 ERA)
Toronto, which has won four straight and six of its last seven games, opened the four-game series with consecutive complete-game shutouts for the first time since 1993. The Blue Jays haven’t allowed a run in 22 innings, and their offense is keeping pace with 28 runs during their four-game winning streak. Toronto has homered in eight consecutive games, and Jose Bautista could be heating up after a slow start. Bautista’s fifth home run Friday was his second in his last four games.
Drabek hasn't allowed more than two runs in any of his first five starts and he held the Rangers to two runs on five hits with a career-high eight strikeouts last Monday. After struggling with his control last season, Drabek has a 26/15 strikeout-to-walk ratio over his first 30 innings.
Wilson gave up three earned runs over 7 1/3 innings last Monday against the Twins, and he’s allowed just 36 runners to reach base through his first 33 1/3 innings. Jeff Mathis is 2-for-18 (.111) against Wilson, who signed a five-year, $77.5 million contract with the Angels during the offseason.
1. The Blue Jays have beaten the Angels in back-to-back games at Angel Stadium for the first time since 2006.
2. The Angels are 1-12 when their opponent scores first.
3. The Angels optioned reliever Kevin Jepsen to Triple-A Salt Lake to make room for Ernesto Frieri, who was acquired from San Diego on Thursday.
