The Rams, who lost 24-3 on Sunday at Green Bay to fall to 0-5 despite being considered preseason NFC West favorites, are desperately looking for a No. 1 receiver for QB Sam Bradford. St. Louis thought it had one in former Jaguar Mike Sims-Walker, but he was recently cut.
Lloyd is reunited with Rams offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, the former Broncos head coach who helped mold Lloyd into a Pro Bowler last year when Lloyd led the league with 1,448 receiving yards. He also had 77 catches, 11 touchdowns and 18.8 yards per reception. No team has thrown more this season than the Rams. Lloyd, who requested to be moved, has 19 receptions for 283 yards and no touchdowns this year. He missed one game with a groin strain but played in the past two games (Denver was on a bye Sunday).
Brandon Gibson currently leads the Rams with 17 receptions for 214 yards and one score. They gave up a sixth-round pick in next year’s draft that could become a fifth-rounder. St. Louis lost its top receiver, Danny Amendola, earlier this season. Lloyd can be a free agent after this season. The Patriots and 49ers were also interested in Lloyd.
The Broncos might not be done dealing. Reportedly fellow WR Eddie Royal also requested a trade, and QB Kyle Orton, recently demoted behind Tim Tebow, could be dealt as well, possibly to Oakland. The Raiders lost starting QB Jason Campbell likely for the season on Sunday to a broken collarbone.
